GT Sport Time Trials: Green Fingers, Green Hell
The new set of GT Sport Time Trials provide some novel challenges this week, with a big, British GT car and a hot hatch to tame.
Aston Martin’s DBR9 GT1 is a world champion race car, and has back-to-back Le Mans wins to its name. Sporting a classic Gulf Oil livery, the big Aston arrived in the game very recently, and if you haven’t driven it yet then now’s your chance to put it to the test.
You’ll be taking the Gr.3-class DBR9 down to the Green Hell or, more specifically, the GP circuit variant of the fearsome Nurburgring. Featuring three heavy braking zones and three chicanes of varying severity, the Nurburgring GP circuit is often a scene for carnage in online racing, but in the Time Trial mode you get to go alone. All you have to do is get on track and go as fast as you can.
The second Time Trial this fortnight goes to the fictional Dragon Trail Gardens circuit, and it’s actually the reverse layout this time. That means the fearsome quad-apex corner heads to the left, and tightens with each turn.
Your job here is not only to tackle the track, but to tweak the car to suit, with free rein on settings. It’s going to be an interesting ride this week, as the car in question is a Ford Focus ST. This front-wheel drive hot hatch is already straining at the limits of traction, using electronic torque vectoring to reduce understeer and torque-steer, so asking it to deal with way more power and grip should challenge the tuners among us.
GT Sport‘s Time Trial mode is a global competition, ranking your best time against all players worldwide, rather than just those in your region as with other Sport Mode events. These two time trials will run through to April 23, when two further events will replace them.
