This 1959 Willys Wagon Is Way Cooler Than Any Modern Jeep Wrangler
Modern Jeep Wranglers are some of the coolest cars on sale. From doorless cruising to the Jeep wave, there’s no other factory-built car so beloved by hardcore enthusiasts and car-agnostic passersby alike. Still, it can’t quite hold up to its ancestors. If you want the ultimate cool cruiser, this 1959 Willys Wagon is the car to buy.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
Frequent readers know I’m a fan of driver versions of fantastic classics. To me, a car with 20,000 miles and a few scuffs is a lot more attractive than any 20-mile showroom piece that you’ll be too afraid to take out of the factory plastic. So this Wagon, with 17,069 miles and a respray under its belt, is ideal. It’s clean enough to look fresh and taken care of, but not too delicate to park outside the local grocery store.
Most of all, the respray is fantastic. A bright teal is the exact kind of playful, extroverted color that modern Jeep buyers love. But superimposed on this classic car, it modernizes it in a funky yet tasteful way. For $21,900 from Worldwide Vintage Autos, this is a hell of a Sunday cruiser.
